YouTube announced they were to launch a product called YouTube Red. As part of this all the musicians who uploaded their content to the platform where to be forced into a wholly unfair contract or be banned from using YouTube.
This was a perfect opportunity for creating a platform to intervene with the Video streaming market. I had at the time a record label and a few radio stations so we were well placed to intervene. A set of developers where located and tasked with building a streaming platform. I myself was heavily involved in the compression algorithms as well as the hardware side of the product. We created a video streaming platform that was more efficient than YouTube and could pay out $0.01 per view (versus YouTube $0.000640 per view) within 12 weeks. The platform grew to over a million users. Unfortunately we had issues with advertisers and had to change company direction
